TUTTOMONDO: KEITH HARING'S MURAL (on the rear wall of the convent of the Church of S. Antonio in Pisa)
The chance meeting in New York of a Pisan student and Keith Haring gave birth to the idea of a mural in Pisa.
More than 180 square metres of the S.Anthony Church wall are covered by 30 colourful figures conveying a message of harmony and peace. Each figure represents the way to keep the peace in the world: the scissors with human features are the image of men's cooperation in fighting the evil, personified by the snake, the woman with a baby in her arms is the symbol of maternity and the two men supporting the dolphin embody the relationship with nature. Usually Haring spent only a few days in painting his murals but he needed a full week to complete Tuttomondo because he was willing to make this work a permanent and not ephemeral mean of communication. Tuttomondo embodies perfectly Haring's creative energy which allowed him to leave us such paean to peace and life just a few months before his death from AIDS
